About the
OCSA Claremont Welfare Society
OCSA (Operation Compassion South Africa) Claremont Welfare Society is the welfare arm of Bethany Fellowship Full Gospel Church, committed to bringing hope, practical support and positive change to individuals, families and communities.
Our work is centred on four key areas: evangelism, youth development, education and community outreach.
Through these initiatives, we seek to share the love of Christ, empower young people, encourage educational development, and respond to the practical needs of those in our community.
The OCSA Bethany Welfare Society believes in serving with compassion, empowering with purpose, and transforming lives through faith and action.
The OCSA Claremont Welfare Society runs under the auspices of Operation Compassion South Africa.
Education: Bethany Educentre
Through its Adult Matric Programme, Bethany Educentre provides adults and young people with an opportunity to complete their secondary education and obtain their matric qualification. By offering accessible classes and ongoing support, the Educentre seeks to equip learners with the knowledge, confidence and qualifications needed to pursue further studies, employment and greater economic opportunities.
The Educentre also contributes to youth development, encouraging young people to remain committed to their education and to develop a positive vision for their future. Its programmes aim not only to improve academic outcomes but also to build character, confidence and a sense of purpose.
Through these initiatives, Bethany Educentre serves as a practical expression of the church's commitment to education, empowerment and community transformation—helping people overcome limitations, discover their potential and become a positive influence within their families and communities.
Evangelism
Bethany Fellowship Church – Jesus Loves Me Kids Campaign
As a church, Bethany Fellowship Church is deeply concerned about the well-being of children in our community and surrounding areas.
Many children are growing up in environments where they are exposed to serious challenges, including peer pressure, gang involvement, drug addiction, teenage pregnancy, bullying, violence and other social pressures that can negatively affect their future.
In response to these challenges, Bethany Fellowship Church initiated the “Jesus Loves Me Kids Campaign”, a three-day evangelistic and community outreach programme aimed at reaching children with the message of God’s love while equipping them with practical tools for life.
The campaign seeks to empower children to make positive and responsible choices, stand against negative influences, protect themselves from harmful situations and become a positive influence within their communities. Through Bible teaching, worship, activities, interaction and practical guidance, children are encouraged to understand their value and identity in Christ and to know that they are loved, valued and have a purpose.
The campaign reaches children from communities including Hanover Park, Lotus River, Lavender Hill, Ocean View and surrounding areas, creating an opportunity for the church to engage with children who may face significant social and economic challenges.
As part of the outreach, each child receives a goodie bag, T-shirt, Bible and snacks throughout the three days, helping to create an atmosphere of belonging, care and encouragement.
The heart of the campaign is captured in the belief that saving a life saves a family, and saving a family can help save a community. Through the Jesus Loves Me Kids Campaign, Bethany Fellowship Church seeks not only to share the Gospel, but also to invest in the next generation and help build stronger, safer and more hopeful communities.
Youth Development
Bethany Fellowship Church is committed to equipping and empowering young people to discover, develop and use their gifts in service to God and the community.
A key part of this ministry is providing young people with opportunities to receive training in music and to grow in confidence, leadership and ministry. This is done through the Raising Up Worship initiative.
Through music training, young people are encouraged to develop their musical abilities while learning the importance of discipline, teamwork, worship and serving others. These opportunities help nurture emerging musicians, singers and worship leaders within the church.
The church also provides practical ministry opportunities through its First Sundays Youth Service, where young people are given the platform to participate in and lead different aspects of the service. This includes music and worship, presentations, Scripture reading, prayer, preaching and other areas of ministry.
First Sundays provides a safe and supportive environment where young people can learn by doing, develop leadership skills and gain valuable experience in ministry. It enables them to move from being participants to becoming active contributors and future leaders within the church.
Through this ongoing investment in young people, Bethany Fellowship Church seeks to raise a generation that is equipped, confident, spiritually grounded and willing to use their gifts to serve God and make a positive impact in their community.
Bethany Fellowship Church – Community Outreach & Care
Bethany Fellowship Church is committed to demonstrating the love of Christ through practical care and compassionate community outreach, particularly by supporting vulnerable and needy individuals and families in the surrounding community.
Through its outreach initiatives, the church provides food and meals to people experiencing hardship, helping to meet an immediate and essential need while offering dignity, encouragement and a sense of community.
These acts of kindness provide an opportunity for the church to connect with people who may be facing difficult circumstances and to share a message of hope and faith.
The church also supports young women and girls by providing sanitary packs, helping to address the challenges faced by those who may not have regular access to essential menstrual hygiene products. This initiative promotes dignity, health and confidence, while helping young women remain active in school and community life.
These outreach programmes are a practical expression of Bethany Fellowship Church’s commitment to loving and serving the community. By responding to both immediate physical needs and the broader well-being of individuals, the church seeks to bring hope, dignity, compassion and restoration to those who are most vulnerable.
Through these acts of service, Bethany Fellowship Church demonstrates that faith is not only spoken but lived out through practical action and care for others.
